Monty Python


A critically aclaimed group that consisted of five comedians and one visual artist:

Graham Chapman
John Cleese,
Terry Gilliam,
Eric Idle,
Terry Jones,
Michael Palin

The groups name “Monty Python” was created by John Cleese and Eric Idle. In 1969 they started a tv show called “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”. It wasn’t a sitcom but a compilation of surreal scenes and sketches. The humour was  impossible to categorise.  It was broadcasted till the 1974. There are 45 episodes of the show.

The Dead Parrot
The Killer Joke
Four Yorkshiremen
Ministry of silly walks
Spanish Inquisition

After the show ended the group became interested in making films.

There are 4 Monty Python films:

"And Now for Something Completely Different" (1971)
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975)
"Life of Brian" (1979)
"Monty Python's The Meaning in Life" (1983)

Monty Python ended in 1989, after the death of Graham Chapman, one of the founders of the group.
Since the break-up each member had a solo career and played in many films and television shows. Terry Gilliam for example started a career as a film director. John Cleese wrote the very succesful comedy "A Fish Called Wanda".

On several occasions the group reunited and played some live comedy shows.

Simon Pegg


Simon Pegg is a very popular modern British comedian. He likes to play with his friend Nick Frost and works with his other friend, Edgar Wright, who is a film director.

Simon started playing in sitcoms but he is more famous for his films.
He became popular after the film "Shaun of the Dead" a parody of zombie horror films. It has been nominated to BAFTA and has won a Saturn award.

The next film created by the trio Frost-Pegg-Wright was Hot Fuzz, a film about big city cop who needs to protect a very small town from strange cultists.

He is not only a comedy actor. He has also played in two Mission Impossible films and new Star Trek films.





Keeping Up Appearances



"Keeping Up Appearances" is a British Sitcom created for BBC.

The main character is Hyacinth Bucket, an eccentric and snobbish woman who wants to be seen as an upper class lady. The sitcom show us how she tries to become upperior to others. It is meant to satirize such behaviours.

It has become very popular and there were 44 episodes made.
The Polish tittle for the sitcom is "Co ludzie powiedzą?".







Mr. Bean


Mr. Bean is a character created by a comedian Rowan Atkinson. Mr. Bean appeared in tv series, two films and a cartoon.

There are almost no dialogues so the series is perfect for people who don't know English.

Mr Bean is childish, eccentric and funny man who has very strange adventures. He always wears a brown suit and a red tie.  He is also very childish because he sleeps with his teddy bear.

Rowan Atkinson has created many other tv series like Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line.






'Allo' Allo!


'Allo' Allo! is a British sitcom created by David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd. It was broadcasted from 1982 to 1992. The show has eighty-five episodes.

The story is set in a cafe in France during the Second World War. The main character is called Rene and he is the owner of the cafe. He is a part of French resistance.  'Allo' Allo! is a parody of spy films. Characters are over the top and are known to have characteristic catchphrases like "Gyd moaning".
